Almost half of the UK’s carbon dioxide emissions come from the energy we use at home and when we travel.
So if you’re building a garden offices, evidence suggests that you may be helping cut peak traffic by up to 10 percent within five years – equivalent to 17 million cars foregoing a trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats!
And it’s not just about traffic: one study of home-based civil servants discovered that home-workers use half the energy of their office-based colleagues.
Rooms Outdoors’ efficient, well-insulated garden rooms tick all the boxes for greener living:
- Walls are constructed using structural insulated panels that are so efficient that they’re practically air tight!
- Windows and doors exceed current British housing standards, with low-emission double glazing as standard. All windows are draught sealed. The glass we use gives up to 30 per cent better insulation than other double glazed windows.
- Our quality timber cladding is certified by the PEFC and accredited by the FSC
- Our foundation system which uses load-bearing steel beams set in sub-soil holes is so designed to make the least impact on the immediate environment.
- We now give the option of LED (light-emitting diode) lighting which lasts longer and uses 40 per cent less electricity than the incandescent bulb which will be banned in the UK from 2012.
The sales team uses public transport wherever possible. We’re working hard on reducing our paper trail by trying to use digital options where we can. And we’ve swapped open-back lorry deliveries for covered lorries so that we could deliver stuff with less packaging.
Saving the planet is a work in progress worldwide. At Rooms Outdoor, we’re constantly trying to figure out sustainable ways to shrink our day-to-day carbon footprint not just in our products but as a company.
